Excerpt taken from Cowtown Moderne, by Judith Sinder Cohen (bracket text added for clarity.)"James B. Davies, Sr.'s design for the colorful three-story building (Western Union Telegraph Building) incorporates exterior decorations of terra cotta in stylized polychrome panels and courses of zigzag banding. Vertical sunken windows panels terminate at the roofline in a sharp-edged, stepped parapet enhanced with angular chevron motifs. At street level, there is a smooth, dark greenish gray stone border under display windows on both the Main Street and Third Street façades. Ziggurat shapes of dark greenish gray stone are set into the shaded orange brick at intervals along this dark border."
